GENERAL INFORMATION
HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME VISITS
At Gatton Medical Centre, we understand that some patients may not be able to attend the clinic in person. Our doctors can arrange visits to patients in their homes, hospitals or nursing homes when appropriate.
HOME VISITS
Where safe and reasonable, our practice provides home and aged or residential care visits to regular patients living within the Gatton township or within a 3km radius of the clinic
Home visits are available for patients who:
- Have mobility difficulties
- Are experiencing acute illness
- Live with severe disability
- Are in the final stages of a terminal illness
Patients may enquire about the cost of a home visit at the time of arranging an appointment.
TEST RESULTS
Patients are encouraged to call between 1pm and 4pm to check on their results.
Although Gatton Medical Centre operates a recall system, we recommend that patients take an active role in following up results if they have not been contacted.
Once reviewed by your doctor, results are available through our reception or nursing staff.
Staff can advise you if your results are normal or if your doctor has requested a follow-up appointment to discuss them further.
It remains the patient’s responsibility to follow up results, especially when advised to do so.
INDIGENOUS HEALTH
Gatton Medical Centre proudly supports the Closing the Gap Program, a national initiative aimed at improving health outcomes and managing chronic disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
TELEPHONE ENQUIRIES
To maintain uninterrupted patient consultations, doctors do not take non-urgent phone calls during appointments.
If reception or nursing staff are unable to assist, a message will be recorded and passed to your doctor.
REMINDER SYSTEMS
Our practice participates in National and State reminder systems for preventive health care such as cervical screening, immunisations and other tests.
If you prefer not to receive reminders, please advise your doctor.
REFERRALS TO SPECIALISTS
Under Medicare regulations, referrals must be written during a consultation.
Backdating referrals is illegal and may result in penalties.
Patients can see specialists without a referral, but rebates may be limited.
Out-of-pocket fees can vary, so it’s recommended to confirm costs directly with the specialist’s rooms before attending.
